The Sandwich Fire Department is happy to offer the "File of Life" to all residents of the SFD district. January 22-28 at the fire station from 9 a.m. til 7 p.m. Bring medications, emergency information and doctor informaton with you. This is a program to better prepare the ambulance crew if we have to respond to an emergency for any individual within our district. Thank you for your consideration in becoming a member of the Sandwich Fire Department.  Like most volunteer departments we have a need for you.  Participation as a volunteer will bring personal rewards, satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment for a job well done.  However, belonging to the fire department requires a serious commitment.  Each member is required to attend  weekly drills and complete required classes, many of which are held at our own fire station.

Applicants for firefighter must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED 

  • Must not have any felony convictions

  • Must possess a valid Illinois drivers license

  • Must reside within the Sandwich Fire District

 

Applicants will be required to complete an interview which will detail the requirements and qualifications prior to membership.  All training and personal protective equipment is provided by the fire department.

Welcome
The Sandwich Community Fire Protection District provides fire/ rescue and emergency medical services to residents in the City of Sandwich as well as rural portions of Dekalb, Kendall and LaSalle Counties.  We are staffed with approximately 35 volunteer firefighters who are committed to providing a professional level of service to our community. 
 
 
 
 
Smoke Detector Program

Having a working smoke detector greatly improves your chances of survival in the event of a house fire.  As part of our smoke detector program we will install smoke detectors at no cost to the homeowner, as well as inspect any existing detection devices with recommendations made for increased personal safety.  Residents that may need help changing the batteries in their existing smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors can contact us as well and we will come and assist you.  Contact us by phone at 815-786-9241 or by email.  Please leave a name and phone number where you can be reached.
